For curious minds and bold teams

Frontier Challenge 2127

Your team. Your ideas. A future beyond Earth.

Design a space settlement, take on a regional challenge and aim for the global final.

Your mission

Could your team design life in space?

Step into an industry simulation: form a student company and answer a Request for Proposal (RFP) to design a future space settlement.

Work through a demanding brief with the pressures and trade-offs a real design team would face. Use AI, digital design and simulations to test ideas, then defend your team's decisions when judges ask the tough questions.

The pathway

Start in your region.
Think beyond Earth.

Regional challenge

Compete in your region

Organise your student company, answer the RFP, design a settlement and defend your thinking before judges.

Global final

Reach the world stage

Selected teams progress to Frontier Challenge 2127: Global Space Design Challenge. The final stage takes place in July 2027 at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.

Regional rounds

Around the world. One shared challenge.

Regional teams take on the same big question: how could people live beyond Earth?

What you'll do

Run the company. Design the settlement. Defend the plan.

A demanding brief, company roles and a proposal that must stand up to questions.

01

Answer the RFP

Your company receives a Request for Proposal. Work out what the settlement needs: safe living spaces, food, water, energy and a feasible budget.

02

Build the proposal

Research options, use AI and digital simulations to test them, and bring engineering, environmental design and business decisions into one proposal.

03

Defend your decisions

Present your design to judges, explain the evidence and trade-offs, and answer questions about how it would work.

Find your role

You don't have to be a rocket scientist.

A strong company needs more than one kind of thinker. You might design a habitat, solve a resource problem, lead the team or make the numbers work.

EngineeringConnect power, transport, structures and safety into a working settlement.
Environmental designPlan how water, food, energy and materials can be used responsibly.
ArchitectureCreate places where people can live, work, learn and spend time together.
ManagementCoordinate the company, set priorities and keep every discipline moving together.
FinanceWeigh costs and trade-offs so the team can defend a practical proposal.
